Exhibition of Khovar & Sohrai Paintings

Exhibition New Delhi March 2007, Link Tribal Art of Hazaribagh An exhibition of Tribal Women Artists Cooperative (INTACH, Hazaribagh) of painted cloths and mud painted paper in the Khovar and Sohrai style of Jharkhand was held on 10 and 11 March at Merkha Lutyens, 4 Bhagwandas Road in New Delhi. The exhibition was attended by many art lovers of Delhi including Mr.S.K.Misra, Chairman of INTACH, Gen.L.K.Gupta head of Chapter Division (INTACH), Mr.Dalip Mehta, IFS, ex-member member Secretary (INTACH), Mrs.Ashima Choudhari, Director, South Delhi Polytechnic for Women, Mr,A.K.Jain, Commissioner (Planning), Delhi Development Authority, Mr.P.K.Sinha, ex-Chief Commissioner, Income tax, important visitors.

For the first time twenty seven large paintings on cloth in the Khovar and Sohrai style were presented before the public. 60 Traditional paintings in mud on paper were also displayed. Artists whose work was shown included State artist of Jharkhand Ms.Putli Ganju, Ms.Philomina Tirkey, Ms.Juliet and Jacinta Imam, Ms.Salome Tirkey, Jason Imam, Ms.Alka, Ms.Dulakri Ekka, and many other distinguished artists was shown.

The exhibition was presented in the gardens of Merkha Lutyens by courtesy of Mr.Baljit Malik, and display stands for the paintings was loaned by courtesy of Delhi Crafts Council. Delhi-Jharkhand Manch, and Trifed –tribes, also displayed hand-crafted items.
